The Bible is full of teachings and lessons for past, current, and future generations, and it is, according to my observation, a lack of desire to know God deeper which creates also a lack of depth in the life of many believers.
Since the beginning of my walk with God, the desire to be deeper with God always filled my heart, and I continue to aspire to this desire. In a world which is more and more corrupted, and developing more and more rejection of religion and moral values, it is crucial for Christians to understand the need of our time, and one of them is to be deeper with the Lord.
Daniel, one of my models in the Bible, teaches us how to be deeper with God in the midst of corruption. Captive in the most powerful but also most corrupted and occult kingdom of his time, Daniel could sty honest and righteous with God until the end of his life. How could he do it? Some important lessons can be learnt here from his life, in the book that carries his name.
In Daniel 1:8, the Bible tells us that Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Daniel did it not because he did not like the food, he did it because this food was dedicated to idols, but also because as a Jew, there were some foods he could not eat. Therefore, Daniel obeyed God instead to follow the rule of the kingdom. However, we have to understand how he knew that he had to take this decision. He knew it because he knew the commandments of the Lord, he knew His Word. The knowledge of the Scriptures led him not to defile himself, the knowledge of the Scriptures allows believers to pursue sanctification. a lack of knowledge of the Scriptures will also open the door to sin into your life, even unconsciously. The knowledge of the Scriptures gives discernment to understand what is right and what is wrong for your faith, and it is one of the first steps to be deeper with Christ. Many believers today want to live a “cool” Christianity, but the Word of God never changes, the principles which were applied in the past continue to be the same today. The knowledge of the Scriptures will give you discernment to know how to go deeper with the Lord.
Therefore, the Lord is talking to someone who needs to go back to his Bible and to meditate again. By neglecting the meditation of the Word of God, you are also neglecting to go deeper with the Lord. But if you understand the necessity to meditate it every day, you will grow spiritually, and your relayionship with the Lord will become deeper. Daniel shows us that by his decision, he consitnuously stayed aligned with the Lord the rest of his life. But when you read chapters 7 to 12, you can see that he had also reached constant levels of depth with Him. It is the fruit of a constant research of the Lord, but especially of knowledge of His Word.
Start from today to read and to meditate again the Word of God. You will grow, and if you do it constantly, you will become deeper with the Lord, in a world which is darker and darker.
