The Bible says in Psalm 119:105: “Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Very frequently, I meet people, and especially Christians, who face challenges in their faith, because they do not know how to discern the Word of God for their lives. They are struggling, they are facing difficulties, they are confused, when in fact the answer is already there: in the Word of God.
When David written those words, it is because he understood how powerful the Word of God is to find direction. From some of my personal meditations, I understood that there is a meaning to the two parts of this verse. When David says that the Word of God is a lamp for his feet, it refers to our daily actions of every day. When a lamp clears your feet, it means that you have immediate light at your feet to be able to see where you are walking. It does not clear very far, but at least it allows you to know exactly where your feet are going. It is a metaphore for our daily walk with the Lord. When you walk with the Lord, meditating the Word of God will allow you to understand what are the daily decisions you need to take. For example, you know that in any situation, keeping grudge against someone is not biblical. In another situation, you know that speaking truth is biblical. In another situation, you know that giving to God is biblical. It are things of daily life, because the Bible mentions it clearly. Therefore, meditating the Word of God allows you to know the will of God for you in simple actions of every day.
In the second part of the verse, David says the Word of God is a light on his path. When you show light on a path, it means that you are showing light on a great distance. It means that you can see the path from a long distance, and knowing what is ahead already. It refers to the knowledge of the will of God for the future of your life, for what goes beyond your daily decisions, what leads yu to give an orientation to your life for the future. Then, in the two meanings, the Word of God helps you to find direction. But then, why do so many people, so many children of God, do not take time to meditate the Word of God? It is simply because they do not understand its necessity. They are then going through useless challenges, that do not allow them to go through the different situations of their lives in the peace and the strength of the Lord.
After almost 20 years to walk with the Lord, I cannot imagine my life without the meditation of the Word of God. That is why, understanding how powerful it is, I can simly tell you that to experience the power of the Word of God into your life, you need to develop a discipline, a discipline of meditation of the Word of God. Personally, I discipline myself to read at least six chapters of the Bible a day and also to meditate it at least once every day. By doing that, I strengthen my soul and develop also more maturity, more wisdom, more understanding of who God is, but also more comprehension of the plan of God for my life. Things are clearer, and I am grateful to the Lord. But is it by my strength? No, it is only y the grace of the Lord, who allows me to be in His presence every day.
It will not happen in one day, but if you discipline yourself to meditate the Word of God and to read His Word daily, you will see a progressive transformation, a progressive impactation, of the Word of God into your life. And you will have a better and clearer understanding of His will for you.
Start today, and begin to see a change. Nothing is better than to be in the presence of God.
Grow in Christ, and Achieve His plan for your life.
